My name is Bettie Bailey. I am originally from North Carolina. I moved around the eastern part of the state until I graduated from high school in Southport, NC. After high school, I attended Duke University. I graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Developmental Psychology. After working a year in one of the first classrooms for students with Autism in Wake County, I went to George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I received a Masters of Education in Special Education with a specialty in Autism.
Upon graduation from Vanderbilt, I taught in Pitt County Schools for four years in a TEACCH classroom. Then, I worked at a computer software company until I returned to the school system in 1995. I taught in Level 1 Autism classrooms at Cary Elementary and Lincoln Heights Elementary. I have been the Autism Support Teacher at Cary High School for 15 years. Currently, I live in Holly Springs with my husband, three cats (two were born at Cary High School) and my daughter’s gecko named Moe. I have two beautiful daughters, a lovely son-in-law and two adorable grandsons. |
